The South West Catchments Council’s Coastal team has been busy kickstarting a planting project, planting 64,000 trees to revegetate the Vasse Wonnerup Wetlands and return it to its former state as a haven for migratory birds.

The South West Catchments Council thanks all community members who volunteer their time to assist with onground work in Natural Resource Management.  

It takes dedication, committment and a genuine interest in the environment for people to make this contribution. SWCC has hundreds of volunteers who work together with the sub-regions on projects throughout the south west.

Conservation Volunteers Australia

Conservation volunteers is a not-for-profit, non-governmental organisation managing a volunteer network on community based conservation projects right across the state. With local offices in Perth and Broome, and a presence in Albany, they are well equipped to cover your conservation project.

Seed Collecting - Blackwood Environment Society - Volunteers are welcome
Jenny Dewing from the Blackwood Environment Society will be collecting seed from native plants at a range of Shire Reserves for the Bridgetwon Community Landcare Nursery every Thursday morning.  Volunteers are welcome and meet at the old Railway Station in Bridgetown at 8am, transport is available for up to four people, and collecting will finish at about 10.30am. Other mornings will be arranged once seed collecting starts, but the Thursday morning sessions are a regular event.

Community Water Testing - BBG & Bridgetown
First Tuesday of the  month at the Old Railway Station Bridgetown (except February) and most times at the BBG office, Old Railway Station Boyup Brook.
 
Bring in a water sample from your dam, creek, waterway or bore ahd have it tested for salinity and pH levels. Samples should be at least 250ml and in a clean container that has been triple rinsed in the water that is being sampled. If you can, collect the sample from halfway betwen the top and bottom of the water body.
 
If you can't make the first Tuesday of the month, please contact BVLZ to amke an alternative time to bring in your water sample/s.

Helping hands - Friends of our Bushland Reserves 
Helping hands is a project that encourages community volunteers to help manage our special shire bushland reserves. Several of these reserves have had community involvement over many years and are showing the benefits of such care and attention through more widlflowers, increased wildlife and fewer weeds and other disturbances. 
 
A program is being developed for the coming year for both Bridgetown and Boyup Brook Shire reserves. If you would like to join in, please contact Blackwood Valley Landcare with your details so they can keep you informed of upcoming events and activities.

LFW is a free voluntary scheme that aims to encourage and assist private landholders in WA to provide habitats for wildlife on their property, even though the property may be managed primarily for othe purposes. 
 
If you wish to protect or create wildflie habitats on your property, the Land For Wildlife Scheme can offer advice and assistance - whether you manage a farm, a bush block, a shire reserve or a roadside.

Margaret River Coastal Residents Association 

Margaret River Coastal Residents Association is looking for volunteers and welcomes new members.

Margaret River Coastal Residents Association represents the interests of coastal residents living from Kilcarnup north to Boodjidup Road south, west of Caves Road in the Margaret River region of Western Australia and is actively involved in Coastcare.  Their current activities have been supported or stimulated by the following plans:

  • Prevelly Foreshore Management Plan
  • Coastal Management Plan
  • Riflebutts Concept Plan
  • Surfers Point Design Group.

The Margaret River Coastal Residents Association is seeking volunteers to help them with their coastcare rehabilitation activities. The purpose of the Margaret River Coastal Residents Association is to be actively involved in coast care and to be a voice for residents on social, cultural and development issues, while working closely with our local government shires.
