NRM Strategy

South West Natural Resource Management Strategy

The South West Regional Natural Resource Management  (NRM) Strategy is a statement by community, industry and government stakeholders within the South West Region about the value of our natural resource assets. It acknowledges the threatening processes affecting these assets and presents our vision for delivering NRM.

We aim to achieve a coordinated approach to NRM by:

  • directing investment to the highest priorities in the Region as determined by the community
  • increasing the quality of and quantity of on-ground outcomes
  • establishing partnerships with the community for local, catchment and regional partners

SWCC coordinated the Strategy using current scientific and technical data, extensive community consultation and reference to more than 20 management plans. NRM managers in the South West developed the Strategy to ensure that management actions at the local level will be consistent and compatible with those required for the entire region.

It takes an asset-based approach and our assets are listed as:

  • Water
  • Biodiversity
  • Land
  • Marine & Coasts
  • Air & Climate
  • People & Culture

The Strategy was endorsed in June 2005 by State and Commonwealth Ministers and can be downloaded below.
