What is the South West Catchments Council (SWCC)?
SWCC is a community representative body that coordinates natural resource management (NRM) in the South West region.  

NRM is about the protection of land, air, bush, rivers, flora, fauna, people, culture, coastal and marine resources for the benefit of existing and future generations.

SWCC is funded by the West Australian and Australian Governments.

Who is SWCC?  

SWCC is a community representative body that coordinates natural resource management (NRM) in the South West region and is the recognised NRM regional body for the South West of WA.  As such SWCC administers allocated regional funding provided by the Australian Government under the Caring for our Country program

NRM is about the protection of land, air, bush, rivers, flora, fauna, people, culture, coastal and marine resources and the promotion of sustainable agriculture for the benefit of existing and future generations.

Our South West Region is divided into six Sub-regions - the Blackwood Basin Group, Cape to Cape Catchments Group, Geographe Catchment Council (Geocatch), Leschenault Catchment Council, Peel-Harvey Catchment Council and Warren Catchments Group. These Catchment Groups nominate community members as representatives for the South West Catchments Council. 

Public authorities are represented by the Departments of: Environment and Conservation, Agriculture and Food WA, Planning and Infrastructure, the Regional Development Commission, Water and Fisheries. Also represented are the WA Local Government Association, CoastSwap and the Nyungar people of the South West Region. 

What is SWCC's role? 

  • SWCC provides guidance on NRM issues within the region
  • Supports priority regional opportunities for NRM in partnership with the Sub-regions
  • Coordinates partnerships between the community and all levels of Government to share the responsibility for NRM 
  • Coordinates implementation of State and Commonwealth NRM policies and programs relevant to the SW Region 

SWCC's mission
SWCC promotes and coordinates the effective conservation and sustainable use of land, water, biodiversity, coastal and marine natural resources through effective planning and management, research, monitoring and community development.
